HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Paper Tavern Summer 2019 Readathon is a week long readathon that will finally settle the question of which summer activity is best: Relaxation or Adventure. Sign up for a team and participate in reading and social media challenges to earn points. Read as much as you can during the readathon, and at the end of the week we’ll tally up the points and find out once and for all whether relaxation or adventure is better.

GROUP BOOK
Sorcery of Thorns
By Margaret Rogerson
All sorcerers are evil. Elisabeth has known that as long as she has known anything. Raised as a foundling in one of Austermeer’s Great Libraries, Elisabeth has grown up among the tools of sorcery: magical grimoires that whisper on shelves and rattle beneath iron chains. If provoked, they transform into grotesque monsters of ink and leather. She hopes to become a warden, charged with protecting the kingdom from their power.
Then an act of sabotage releases the library’s most dangerous grimoire. Elisabeth’s desperate intervention implicates her in the crime, and she is torn from her home to face justice in the capital. With no one to turn to but her sworn enemy, the sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn, and his mysterious demonic servant, she finds herself entangled in a centuries-old conspiracy. Not only could the Great Libraries go up in flames, but the world along with them.
As her alliance with Nathaniel grows stronger, Elisabeth starts to question everything she’s been taught – about sorcerers, about the libraries she loves, even about herself. For Elisabeth has a power she has never guessed, and a future she could never have imagined.

F.A.Q
How do points work?
Every team challenge completed gets you one point for your team. If you complete social media challenges, each one of those is one point as well. At the end of the readathon we will post a link to where you can submit the reading challenges you’ve completed as well links to your social media accounts for any S.M. challenges you completed. We will tally up the scores and then announce the winner! We will also make sure to send you a fun score card after the readathon is over for you to keep and brag about.
What kind of books can I read?
You can read any kind of book you want for this readathon! Literature? Of course! Manga? Sure! How about an eBook? You betcha! What about listening to an audiobook? That’s great too!
Do I have to complete all of the challenges?
Nope! Do as many or as few as you want to. We understand that many people are busy and don’t always have time to sit down and read for a week straight. Just remember that every point you earn during the readathon will help out your team!
Can you complete multiple challenges with one book?
Yes, but each book can only count for up to a maximum of two challenges as to prevent points from being too easily obtained. Choose your TBR carefully!
What if I’ve already read the group book?
If you have already read the group book then you can feel free to choose any book to read that you’d like! We will be discussing the group book the following week on The Paper Tavern, so you’re already caught up for that. You are also free to read the group book again if you want to!
When does the event officially start?
The official beginning of the event is at midnight in Eastern Time (UTC -5). At that point the website will update with new information daily. If your local timezone is ahead of Eastern Time you can feel free to start reading whenever it becomes the 18th in your timezone. The event will end exactly one week later at midnight on the 26th Eastern Time.
Do I need to register?
You don’t need to in order to participate! You can read along with us without registering, but if you want to submit scores and have points you earn count towards your team, you’ll need to register above. You can register for the readathon up until the end of the final day of the readathon!
What does the winning team get?
Bragging rights, and the knowledge that their summer activities are superior.
When are Social Media Challenges updated?
New social media challenges will be added to the site every day at midnight in the US Eastern Time Zone (UTC -4).
